ProcureCon Brussels Roundup
We enjoyed an interesting three days at the ProcureCon Event in Brussels in early November.
Key Challenges discussed around the conference and at our Roundtable included:
- The development of procurement teams and how to retain high performers
- How to identify and attract talent from inside the business, or externally
- How to create a strategic recruitment process to successfully hire new talent
Main messages from the conference sessions focused on How Procurement can Capitilise on the Changing Market Situation to Cut Costs & Build a Foundation for the future?
The overwhelming conclusion from these presentations was the need to work with the best people and not surprising considering the challenges discussed for procurement professionals included the ability to;
- Challenge complexity
- Reduce risk
- Initiate Innovation
- Enable Change
- Drive sustainability
- Really ‘understand’ their business, not just their role
- And be a proving ground for succession planning, not just in procurement but for future General Management.
All these ambitions are admirable, but the real challenge based on these aspirations is the ability to retain, develop and recruit the best people for your team, as well as a strategy for team development.
This is a combination of development of the right core competencies, skills assessment tools, and the development of a strategy for team development and recruitment.
Too many people react to training and recruitment, rather than planning to succeed and if you recruit the wrong people too often, your business strategy will fail.
